Konepaja Survonen Oy has Concluded a Contract with Watrec Oy on Delivery of Tanks for the Biogas Plant to be Built in Riihimäki

14.7.2015

In 2015, an area known as the Circular Economy Village (Kiertotalouskylä) and comprising three refineries will be built in Riihimäki to implement a globally unique recycling solution. In the new solution, plastics, metals and biodegradable materials are separated from ordinary municipal waste and redirected for further processing.

A biogas plant integrated with Ekokem’s own refinery generates synergy benefits and enhances the refinery’s operation. This innovative solution is the first bio-plant in Finland where biowaste originating from mixed waste is processed.

The mutually beneficial co-operation between Konepaja Survonen Oy and Watrec Oy is about to continue, since Konepaja Survonen Oy has already supplied tanks to biogas plants in Vampula, Honkajoki, Kuopio, and Oulu. In addition to the tank deliveries, Konepaja Survonen Oy has been involved in construction works at the sites. At the Honkajoki, Kuopio, and Oulu plants, there are collection lines for biowaste and sludge collected separately from households and commercial enterprises. At the plant under construction in Riihimäki, in addition to the aforementioned, organic waste generated at the Ecorefinery (Ekojalostamo) will additionally be processed using a dedicated collection line, and there will be three lines instead of the usual two.

The bio-refinery processing organic waste is being developed by Biotehdas Oy, Finland’s only nationwide operating biogas company. Watrec Oy is the technological partner of Biotehdas Oy responsible for the implementation of all of the company’s biogas plants. The refineries should be completed by summer 2016. Manufacturing of the tanks has begun and will be completed in autumn 2015.

”Watrec Oy has operated in the biogas industry for over ten years. From the very start, we have strived to establish a strong and functional co-operation network with companies offering top-level skills in different fields.

The importance of engineering works and steel tanks for biogas plants has increased significantly in the field of biogas plant construction, and we have been building the related co-operation and expertise with Konepaja Survonen Oy for more than six years”, says Juhani Suvilampi, CEO of Watrec Oy.

“Konepaja Survonen Oy is an innovative and efficient mechanical engineering enterprise; we have already implemented several biogas plant projects in Finland together. We have been pleased with their skills, products, and co-operation within the framework of our projects.

This way, we ensure that high-quality steel tanks are used for our biogas processes and that the projects can be carried out in co-operation with a Finnish supplier – this makes project management more reliable. Our co-operation has been efficient, we have developed our activities and the steel products manufactured for the process together”, Suvilampi continues.

“For us, participation in the implementation of biogas plants in Finland is a big thing indeed. Co-operation with such a competent company as Watrec Oy has been trouble-free and their solid expertise in the energy sector facilitates the planning and realisation of our products”, says Janne Survonen, CEO of Konepaja Survonen Oy.
